Niall McNulty attended SCECSAL 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya earlier this year as an invited expert, hosted by the Goethe Institut. His – and the other invited participants – thoughts on the conference our published online at the Goethe Institut website:
“A stand out session at the conference for me was the presentation by Ellen Tise ([…] Senior Director, Library and Information Services at Stellenbosch University, South Africa) who’s paper titled ‘Global Development Trends in Information Management’ outlined international trends in libraries, including how libraries can function in the changing knowledge economy; the way space in libraries is changing and becoming more important to patrons (what Tise called the growth of iAccess to include sAccess – social access); and how libraries need to be more service-focused rather than product-orientated. Most of what she stated in her presentation aligned with the goals and objectives of the Ulwazi Programme!”
