The Encyclopaedia of South Africa Arts, Culture and Heritage (ESAACH) project will be launched this Friday at the Centre for African Literary Studies (CALS) in Pietermaritzburg. The minister of arts and culture, Pallo Jordan, will be doing the honours and I have been asked to explain to everyone what a wiki is and why we have decided to use one as the collaborative research and writing tool. Bruce Buttery from PANGA TV will be filming the event so we should be able to upload an mpeg of it in a few weeks time.
From there we head off to Bloemfontein where ESAACH will be holding a workshop for interested cultural and heritage groups, including publishers from Morija, who are hoping to digitize their archive.
A busy but interesting week ahead. Will report back once it is all over.
