I’ve started a reading group with Rike and Kira. Our focus is on texts dealing with cities, which will hopefully feed into Kira’s current research and mine and Rike’s future degrees. We are meeting once a month and will read two books for discussion – one more theoretical text and then one South African-focused or fictional text.
The first two books we are reading are Michel de Certeau’s The Practice of Everyday Life (a classic) and Sarah Nuttall and Achille Mbembe’s Johannesburg: The Elusive Metropolis, a collection of essays and musings on Joburg.
Shout if you want to join us.
