About
KZN Literary Tourism is a research project focused on developing resources around literary tourism in KwaZulu-Natal. These include area-specific writers’ trails and an online author database. The project is run out of the University of KwaZulu-Natal with funding from the National Research Foundation, National Arts Council and the eThekwini Municipality.
Problem
The project had two aims; to promote literary tourism in KwaZulu-Natal and to research and publicise the literary heritage of the region.
Solution
We developed a website with a database of author profiles, many of them from previously marginalised groups, to promote the rich literary heritage of KwaZulu-Natal. We also designed an interactive literary map of the province, digitised a number of literary videos that the project had developed, created online versions of their writers’ trails and created a digital repository for their academic research on literary tourism.
