We developed the North Coast Writers Trail, part of a collection of different literary trails in KwaZulu-Natal, with the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s KZN Literary Tourism project. This trail was funded by the National Arts Council and the Ilembe Municipality.
In the past few years, we have worked with the KZN Literary Tourism project to develop writers trails around individual writers and literary areas. The North Coast Writers Trail features writers such as Benedict Wallet Vilakazi, Dianne Stewart, Chief Albert John Luthuli and Mafika Pascal Gwala and stops along the trail include Ballito, Morewood, Groutville and KwaDukuza.
As part of the project, we ran an intensive training workshop with community guides, introducing them to the writers associated with the North Coast as well as a more general introduction to cultural tourism in the region.
See the various Writers Trails on our Resources page.
