Tombouctou Manuscripts Project

For the past nine months I have been managing the Tombouctou Manuscripts Project website and its social media accounts. The project was initially established in 2003 to research and document manuscript tradition in Africa. More recently, Timbuktu has been in the press due to civil unrest and the threat this poses to various manuscript collections in the ancient city.

During this period, we have had numerous requests for comment from Professor Shamil Jeppie (the director of the project), from, amongst others, the President of the ICOM Disaster Relief Task Force and Italian design and architecture magazine, Domus. Incidentally, Domus do interesting mixtapes in different cities around the globe. See the excellent ‘Sound of Johannesburg’ here.

To keep up-to-date with the situation in Timbuktu, check out the project blog, follow on Twitter or like on Facebook. There is also a Flickr group if you would like to put faces to names.
