ASnA Conference 2011

At the beginning of this month, I presented at “The Futures of Culture”, the 2011 Anthropology Southern Africa Conference held at the University of Stellenbosch. There was a vast array of topics and papers covering a broad range of subjects like identity, race and ethnicity, culture and technology, citizenship, xenophobia, migration, memory, health and healing. Click HERE for a full list of the papers presented.

I participated in a panel entitled ‘Memory Works’, chair by Professor Carolyn Hamilton, that dealt with the work that the past is made to do in the present. The conference was well-run but there were a lot of different panels, which precluded lengthy discussion and it was sometimes difficult to see everything you wanted to. A good indication of research output I suppose.
