A mobile digital revolution is sweeping Africa (read more on it here) and the Ulwazi Programme has recognised this. If the knowledge and stories they collect are to be relevant to the communities they serve, then this information needs to be accessible through mobile phones.
Working with designer Dom Strauss, we have developed a mobile interface for their online components. This is a scaled-down version, stripped of the interactivity and heavy graphics of the desktop site, while still maintaining Ulwazi’s brand identity and the usability that users expect.
Looking at Analytics, 5%of Ulwazi’s traffic is coming from mobile devices at the moment but we expect this to increase dramatically as bandwith costs become cheaper in South Africa.
